The Facebook Fad: When does it degenerate to “So 2010″?

Google eats Facebook

Google eats Facebook?

Facebook’s young CEO has learned quickly one of the prices of success is: everyone shoots at you and everybody wants the pie. Not just a piece mind you, the whole freaking pie. Embroiled in a lawsuit as we speak with Paul Ceglia who is now gunning for 50% of the company Mark Zuckerberg is enjoying what many successful business builders have enjoyed for centuries. In fact in the middle ages Zuckerberg would have been the name of a fortified castle on a hill with the most modern weapons and a well trained army because back then men were men and goats were dinner. It’s still a vicious world for the money lords.

Because Facebook is social in nature it is inevitable Facebook will change to keep up or degenerate to nothingness. In fact ZDnet authors Larry Dignan, Andrew Nusca write:

The worst thing Google can do right now is to get jealous about the media fawning over Facebook the way it used to fawn over Google. So what if magazines want to put Facebook’s twentysomething CEO on their dead-tree leaflets. Google is 10 times more important than Facebook, which is rapidly devolving into a MySpace-like waste of digital bits.

Which could be jealousy because they did not think of it or a Nostradamus like prophetic proclamation. What say you? After all, you’re not a magazine writer (except for you that is) you’re a user who depends on Facebook and other tools for social integration of your product or service. Is Facebook fading to faintness?

Of course everyone wants to know what the “others” say:

  1. If google comes out with a social networking site Facebook is done.
  2. Overwhelmed with SPAM
  3. Do we really have to debate this every few months?
